To the Membership,
Welcome back! Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning after decades of dedicated service, I extend a warm welcome to each of you. Regardless of whether this is your first year or your fortieth, please know that your union is here to support you. Do not hesitate to reach out if you require assistance—we are always here to help.
It has been a busy and productive summer at the NTU office. I would like to thank the Executive Board for their invaluable support in organizing and assisting me with several successful events, including our Union Representative Training, our New Member Luncheon, and the annual Nashua Goes Back to School event. At the Nashua Goes Back to School Event, we were proud to distribute $5,000 worth of free books to local students, generously donated by First Book, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free educational resources to children nationwide.
This year promises to be an exciting one for our union. We begin the school year with two newly ratified contracts—one for teachers, which extends through the 2028–2029 school year, and one for paraeducators, effective through the 2027–2028 school year. Both contracts are available on the NTU website at nashuatu.org and have also been shared electronically by your building representatives.
Please take a moment to review your contract and ensure that your paycheck reflects the pay scales. All four current contracts are posted on the NTU website. If you notice any discrepancies or have questions, I encourage you to contact one of your building’s union representatives for assistance. A complete list of representatives is also posted on our website.
Negotiations are also underway for our two newest bargaining units—American Sign Language Interpreters and Family Engagement Coordinators. We are optimistic about reaching agreements for both groups soon. Additionally, preparations have begun for negotiations on a new clerical contract, as the current agreement expires at the end of this school year. A clerical negotiations team was formed in July, and a survey will be distributed to affected members this fall to gather input.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding contract enforcement, working conditions, student behavior, union-related benefits, or anything else the union might be able to help with, please do not hesitate to contact the NTU. It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as your union president, and I remain at your service.
In solidarity,
Gary E. Hoffman
