A lot of people read our union name - Nashua Teachers' Union - and automatically think about teachers. Well, this makes sense because teacher is in our name. Our name dates back to our charter from June 27, 1949, when the Nashua Teachers' Union was recognized by AFT. Since then, our union has grown to include four separate contracts/units: Food Service Workers, Paraeducators, Secretaries, and Teachers. Each unit plays a unique, important role in the success of our students. Within each unit, there are many additional roles that fall within that contract. Here is a breakdown of each of those units and who works under each contract.
Members of the Food Service Unit include:
Lead Cooks

Food Service Workers
Lunch monitors are not included in this unit.
Members of the Paraeducator Unit include:
District-Wide Paraeducators working with district-wide programs
Instructional Paraeducators working with general special education students and teachers
Technical Paraeducators working with classrooms typically at the middle or high schools
Members of the Secretaries Unit include:
Schedule I Secretaries - based mainly out of Central Office working in various departments with a full-time, year round position
Schedule II Secretaries - based mainly out of the 18 school buildings with a full-time schedule during the school year and a part-time schedule during the summer
Schedule III Secretaries - based mainly out of the secondary schools with a school year schedule
Members of the Teachers' Unit include anyone that is required to have a teaching certification or equivalent (Alt 4 or 5 or Emergency Authorization) from the Department of Education:
Elementary Teachers including Unified Arts Teachers and Title I
Middle and High School Teachers including all academic areas
Special Education Teachers
Speech Language Pathologists
School Counselors
School Psychologists
School Nurses with a RN
Social Workers
Head Teachers/Curriculum Liaisons
Coaches - Peer and Academic
Teachers of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
Teachers of the Visually Impaired
Reading Specialists
Library/Media Specialists
Any teacher included above working less than full-time
Continuing Substitutes

The following positions are vacant on the Board of Directors. Vacancies are either a one or two year term (see date next to each position for when the term expires). The Board of Directors meetings monthly to discuss Union related issues, actions, and other business as needed. Board members also help disseminate information from the Union Office, meet with administration for questions about contracts, and assist members with questions, concerns and when meeting with administration. Members of the Board Directors are supported by the Grievance Chairs and the Executive Board.
