Week of November 22, 2021

Message from the President

November 25th is Thanksgiving this year. It also marks 7 years since Sherry and I welcomed our boys into our family. It wasn't Thanksgiving that year, it was a Tuesday. As you read in the Just for Fun today, it snowed Tuesday into Wednesday, and then we lost power at my house for three days. Nothing says lets turn your life upside down than four boys, snow, no power, and a major holiday all wrapped into three days.

The week of Thanksgiving, I usually write about how thankful I am. This year will be no different. As I write this, I am waiting for the AFT Teachers Program and Policy Council meeting to start. On Tuesday night, I went out to dinner with some AFT colleagues, and I was talking about the NTU (I know, you're shocked). Because I am the President, I often get the credit and the praise from other organizations, AFT-NH, and AFT National. But let's me honest, I am just the loud mouth piece. Working with me throughout everything are some amazing people who work full time and then still make time to deal with me.

Our local would not be as successful as it is without those who work to support me, the contracts, and our organization. I want to take time and express my sincere gratitude and thanks to the Executive Board, the Board of Directors, the Food Service Negotiating Team, the Para-Educator Negotiating Team, the Secretaries Negotiating Team, the Teachers' Negotiating Team, and Terry Freeman. Without all of these different groups working as hard as they do, our local would not be as successful as it is. Is it perfect? No. Is anything really perfect? I don't think so. But the people I mentioned work diligently to improve our organization and make things better for those who are represented by the Nashua Teachers' Union.

Finally, where would we be without all of you? We would be lost in a snow storm the week of Thanksgiving without any power with four new kids! Each of you plays an important role in the success of our district. Without each of you, our district - and more importantly - our students would be missing out. I know that this year has been difficult for many, more difficult than I could have imagined. But I want you to know how much I appreciate everything you do for our students and for each other.

I wish you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

When: Monday, November 29th at 6:00pm

Favorite Part of Thanksgiving

This should come as no surprise, but the word family showed up in many of your responses. Take a look at what your colleagues had to say.

Just for Fun

Thanksgiving is Thursday. For many, there is a lot to do and prep before the big holiday. Seven years ago, it snowed at my house and I lost power for three days. This made me think and where this week's Would You Rather comes from.
