Updates from Around the Union

Food Service

It is anticipated that Food Service Workers will see their raises for the 2021-2022 school year in their June 9th paychecks. Those employees who are owed retro payments should see that in their June 23rd paychecks. Once this process has been completed, anyone with questions regarding their raise and/or retro should contact Derek Danielson by email (danielsond@nashua.edu).

Paraeducator Negotiations

On June 1st, the Paraeducator Negotiations Team met with the District for the sixth session of negotiations. The process has been slow, but continues to move forward. Salary increases continue to be a top priority for the team. The next negotiations session will be on Monday, June 13th at 10:00am at Central Office.

Secretary Negotiations

On May 24th, the Secretary Negotiations Team met with the District for the sixth session of negotiations. Similar to that of the Paraeducators negotiations, the process has been slow, but continues to move forward. The team meets again with the District on June 9th at 10:00am at Central Office.

Teachers due for Recertification with the NH DOE

I have received a few emails asking questions about when the portal would be turned on for renewal. This is the email that went out via building principals from Dr. Sarfde:

You will receive an email from NHED by mid-June. Melissa Weikle is working through the list of recertification in alphabetical order. Please do not be alarmed if your colleague received an email and you did not. Don't panic until June 16. Until then, please be patient. Thank you so much.

NH AFL-CIO Scholarship

The 2022 Linda Horan NH AFL-CIO Scholarship is now available.

All applications must be received by 4:00pm on June 20, 2022.

Vacancies on the Board of Directors

The following positions are vacant on the Board of Directors. Vacancies are either a one or two year term (see date next to each position for when the term expires). The Board of Directors meetings monthly to discuss Union related issues, actions, and other business as needed. Board members also help disseminate information from the Union Office, meet with administration for questions about contracts, and assist members with questions, concerns and when meeting with administration. Members of the Board Directors are supported by the Grievance Chairs and the Executive Board. If you have any questions, or are interested in one of the vacant positions, please contact Adam (president@nashuatu.org).

From AFT-NH

  1. AFT is running free online Student Debt Clinics every Thursday during the month of June. They will help you find ways to consolidate or even eliminate your student debt. They can walk you through the rules of Public Service Loan Forgiveness which is good for anyone who works in public service – not just education. Here is the link to sign up!

  1. Reaching Higher NH, a non-partisan education policy research and analysis group is collecting data on why teachers and school staff are changing jobs or even leaving the field entirely this year. This data will be compiled and available to help policy makers make better decisions based on an accurate picture of facts in the field. If you are making a transition or leaving entirely at the end of the school year and would like to help by taking the survey, here is the link. The survey runs until June 24th.
