Week of May 3, 2021
Message from the President
Welcome to May! We are in the last full month of the 2020 - 2021 school year, which seems crazy. Ok, things have been crazy since March 2020. Although, I'm sure many of you think I'm crazy in general; my wife would agree. I hope you all had a great week of vacation, you certainly earned the time to relax .
This week, there is a lot to celebrate. This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, Nurses Appreciation Week starts on Thursday, and Friday we celebrate our food service workers! There are so many individuals that make our school communities function. Educating our students as and will always be the top priority, however, there are other things that equally important. School is often a safe haven where they can eat, be safe, and taken care of by caring adults. We are so fortunate to have so many amazing staff in this district. As return after vacation and enter the last phase of the school year, I want to make sure to stop and recognize the important celebrations this week with a few more to come in the next weeks. Over the last months, we recognized different groups on their special days or weeks. You should be thanked for your work, genuinely, on a regular basis, and I know that isn't always the case.
Thank you all, so much, for your contributions to the success of our students.
Elections will be held June 1st - June 3rd on Ballot Point

Know Your Contract
Jury Duty
As people who work for a school district , we are not exempt from being called to Jury Duty. Each contract has specific language regarding court appearances:
Teachers: Article 6:12
Paras: Article 6:6
Secretaries: Article 6:7
Food Service: Article 6:4
While the language is different in each contract , they all share a common theme. If you are summoned to jury duty, you need to go. If you are paid for your services, bring proof of that to the Payroll Office at Central Office, and you will be paid the difference of what you would be paid for a regular day.
For example, if your regular pay is $50 per day, and the Court s pay you $10, the district will pay you the additional $40 to make you whole for that day.
Free PD Opportunities
There are free, on-demand webinars on a variety of topics available on ShareMyLesson. ShareMyLesson is a free resource with major contributions from AFT. For more information or to register for free, visit www.sharemylesson.org.
