Last Friday, more than 800 of my closest elementary colleagues and I attend a training on signs of suicide. The training, SOS - Signs of Suicide: Training Trusted Adults, was scheduled by the district in accordance with a new state law that requires those who work with children to have training in suicide prevention each year. The training was put on by a local organization, Connor's Climb, which was started by Connor's family after his suicide. The goal of the program is to educate all students and staff. The reason for including students is they are often people who see or hear some of the warning signs. I know that they are working on scheduling this training for secondary people. I'm not sure if there is a plan to bring this in for students as of now. One of the questions I asked was related to a module for parents. There is one and I'm not sure if there are plans to hold any education for parents at this time. I have been to a lot of professional development that has been useless to me. While this topic is sad and upsetting, I took away a lot of valuable information from it that I will be able to use right away, hopefully I won't have to though. I hope those who attended feel similar. Two things they included at the very beginning: The Crisis Text Line and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. They said they are for people who are feeling suicidal, but also for those who are trying to help someone and don't know what to do. It is very common for staff to communication with parents, colleagues, the Union, and school district administration through school email, especially during remote learning. As public employees, any email you send using your nashua.edu or nsd42.net accountis subject to the Right to Know laws underRSA 91-A. I would remind all staff that school email should be used for school purposes only. Those purposes could include communicating with administrators, parents, students (seePOPPs Policy GBEBD), and colleagues about school-related topics. Your school email should generally not be used for personal business (seePOPPs Policy EHAA). General Union business can be sent through school email including meeting announcements, updates, the Monday Morning Message, etc. If you are seeking advice regarding a concern you may have with your administrator, you should use your personal email or call the Union directly. It is safe to assume you can respond to the Union on your school email if we have emailed you directly. Please be mindful of how you are using your school email. If you have any questions, please contact the Union Office.Â

What should Adam do?
One might consider this an abuse of power or maybe a benefit of being the person who writes the Monday Morning Message. As I told you, I had an unfortunate accident with my beard trimmer which resulted in being clean shaven for the first time in almost 20 years. Since then, I have maintained the clean shaven look, but have been "harassed" about growing back. So, the question this week is simple and centered on me: grow it back or shave it off?
