President Adam Marcoux issued the following statement to NBC 10 Boston after a media request regarding the Finocchiaro devastating house explosion. The statement was given with permission from the family.
We are so grateful that John, Laura and their two sons are safe. After such a devastating loss, it is so heartwarming so see such an outstanding show of support to two valued members of the community. They have both given so much support to their students and colleagues over the years, I'm glad we can all be there to support them as they try to move forward. I am so proud to be part of an organization that rallies behind their own in a time of need. This is who the people of the Nashua Teachers' Union are, a caring and compassionate people. We will continue to offer our support and assistance to John and Laura as long as they need it.
To support John and Laura, people can donate through the GoFundMe page or through the Nashua Teachers' Union Support Fund via Venmo (@ntulocal1044) or mail a check made out to the Nashua Teachers' Union to 7C Taggart Drive, Nashua, NH 03060. 100% of the proceeds collected by the NTU will be donated to the Finocchiaro Family.
John, Laura, Danny and Dylan and their adult children Ben & Kelsey thank each and everyone deeply for the support given to all of them during this very difficult time.
Can you PLEASE express our gratitude. We are absolutely speechless, moved, and humbled by the support of all of our communities from near and far. We are so very lucky to have the support and love of so many.
There is no school on September 13th for students due to the State Primary election. In order to not have to add a day on to the calendar in June, the NTU and Nashua School District agreed to a one-time Memorandum of Understanding for all staff to work a normal day on September 13th. That means all Food Service Workers, Paraeducators, Secretaries, and staff covered under Unit A - Teachers, will come to work. It is a normal work day, so those who may have appointments or other circumstances could use time to be paid for the day. For most, the day will include professional development.
When we left in June, the plan was for negotiations of both the Secretaries contract and the Paraeducator contract in August. That did not happen. The primary reason was we could not coordinate schedules with members of both teams and the negotiators. We are actively working to fine dates to resume negotiations. Dates and times of meetings will be sent out as they are scheduled. For the time being, all language in the expired contracts remains in effect. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Our colleagues from the Nashua Public Library Employees Union, AFT Local 4831, will be hosting AFT Student Debt Clinics on Monday, October 3rd. They have opened up the registration to NTU members. Debt clinics will be held at 3:30pm and 5:30pm at the library in the Chandler Wing. You must pre-register for the event AND be a member of the NTU. Please contract the NTU Office if you have any questions.
