Last week, the Paraeducator Negotiations Team declared impasse, ending negotiations with the Board of Education. The next step will be for the Union and the Board to agree on a mediator and schedule mediation. The mediator will try and help the Union and the Board finalize the remaining items on the table. Those items, what impasse is, and next steps will be discussed at the Paraeducator Membership Meeting on Wednesday, November 9th at 4:00pm at Nashua High School North. You must be a member of Unit B - Paraeducators to attend the meeting. If you are unsure of your membership status, please contract the Union Office. Information will be available to paraeducators who were unable to attend after the meeting on the 9th.Â
With the declaration of impasse, the Paraeducator Contract Campaign has begun. Teachers have been asked to submit quotes about the paraeducators they work with, and I have been turning them into graphics used on our social media platforms. Those images are below as well. All of the graphics include the tagline Paraeducators, the heartbeat of our schools. This will also be used on a new, paraeducator-specific shirt, and on new signs. I am going to be asking the membership to come out to the Board of Education meeting on Monday, November 29th to hold signs, and hopefully have some members speak to the crucial role our paraeducators play in our schools. I am also going to be looking for some paraeducators to speak about a day in the life of a para. That will be eye-opening to the Board.

As part of your employment, and included in all four NTU contracts, you are expected to know and abide by the policies and procedures (POPPs) created by the Board of Education. These policies and procedures can be found on the Nashua School District website under Board of Education. While all policies do apply to everyone, I would focus specifically on Sect ions E, G, I, and J. If you have any specific questions about policies, feel free to let me know. To access the POPPs Policies, click here.Â
Interested in making contributions to COPE? Fill out this form and return it to the NTU Office.
We need volunteers to spend a few hours knocking on doors of union households and talking about voting in the upcoming election for candidates who will protect collective bargaining and public education.Â
November 5th meet at 161 Londonderry Turnpike, Hooksett at 1PM
A few hours of your time on either day can help make the difference between
losing collective bargaining, seeing public schools dismantled by more and expanded voucher programs and already underfunded public universities further slashed on the one hand OR
having a state where there are enough sensible legislators who believe that that workers deserve to have a say in the workplace through their unions, that public tax dollars should fund public schools, that teachers should be allowed to teach honest history, that all students should feel welcomed and included in the classroom and that NH should fund public universities so NH students can attend without going into crippling debt.
AFT-NH is participating in both events. All locals are invited to send interested volunteers. Questions? Contact Deb Howes at president@aft-nh.org
Have an idea for the Just for Fun section? Send it to Adam (president@nashuatu.org).
There were a lot of different comfort foods listed. For me, it depends on the day or my mood...I know, you're shocked I have moods. However, my go to is and will always be ice cream.
