Paraeducator Negotiations Updates

Mediation Date Set for Para Contract

A date has been set for Paraeducator Contract Mediation. The NTU Para Negotiations Team will meet with the BOE Negotiations Team on December 1st. We are expecting to start between 9:00am and 10:00am. A mediator will be on site to assist with this process. The mediator, Gary Altman, has done many mediations in Nashua. Most recently, he was used in the mediation of the teachers' contract. Gary is a well-respected mediator and is used in many other AFT locals across New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Unit B - Paraeducator Membership Meeting

All members of Unit B - Paraeducators are invited to attend the membership meeting on Wednesday, November 9th at 4:00pm at Nashua High School North Lecture Hall - Room B166. We will discuss impasse, what's left on the table to negotiate, and next steps. If you have any questions, please contact Adam (president@nashuatu.org).

Secretaries Negotiations Updates

New Secretaries Logo

As we continue with Secretary Negotiations, we have been working on a PR Campaign should we declare impasse and not reach an agreement. There is still hope that we will be able to come to a deal without a mediator. To the left is the new logo representing our secretaries. Secretaries keep our schools running will be our tagline for everything we do relative to their contract. Thank you to Chelsea Folini from Pennichuck Middle School for creating the logo.

Secretary Negotiations Update

As I announced last week, we ended on negotiations on November 1st feeling positive. We have scheduled our next session for November 15th at 10:00am. If we settle a contract, a secretaries membership meeting will be scheduled to review the proposed changes to the contract and to vote. If we should end up declaring impasse during the process, a secretaries membership meeting will be scheduled to review what's left on the table, to talk about what impasse means, and talk next steps.

Grievance Procedure

All four contracts outline the Grievance Procedure in Article 3. For the most part, all four contracts share the same language with some minor exceptions - mainly where some of the Grievances are sent during the Step process. The first question you should ask yourself - "is this grievable? Was part of my contract or a POPPs policy violated?" If the answer is yes, or you are unsure, your first step should be to contact your Building Representative. We have a team that works together with the Building Representatives to make work with you, and to make sure the process is followed. For more information on the Grievance Process please consult your contract or visit the NTU website.
