At their meeting on March 15th, the Board of Directors approved sending the amended NTU Constitution to the membership for ratification.Â
The changes, seen in red, mainly reflect updating the Constitution to the current practice of the NTU as well as recommended changes from AFT. Some of the changes shift some responsibility to the Office of the President. The rationale for this is because we have have a full time President for the last 20 or so year, which is a change that has not been reflected in the Constitution.Â
To review a draft of the Constitution that will be voted on in April click here.
I will hold a Zoom webinar on Thursday, April 6th at 4:00pm to review the proposed changes and answer any questions. Registration is required. Please visit https://aft.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_0D6k4Ft4Ty6ZD0JDIxhrag
After registration is confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

The Paraeducator Contract was ratified on Monday, March 13th by the membership, but tabled by the Board of Education because the costing sheet was not available. A costing sheet is a document that shows the expected costs of a contract for each year and includes any costs associated with the contract including insurance and federal taxes. It is expected that the costing sheet will be ready for the March 27th Board of Education meeting and the Board will vote on the contract that evening.Â
Below is the anticipated timeline for full ratification of the Secretaries contract. As dates are confirmed, I will indicate as such below.
February 20th - NTU Membership Vote - Contract Ratified
February 20th - BOE Vote - Contract Approved
March 15th - 1st Reading, Board of Aldermen - Confirmed
March 27th** - Budget Review Committee, Board of Aldermen
March 28th** - 2nd Reading and approval, Board of Aldermen
