Week of January 2, 2023

Message from the President

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you had a great week of relaxation, family, and fun! We have a lot going on with Secretary and Paraeducator negotiations plus our regular Union business.

I wanted to let you know that I will be traveling for AFT work January 18th - January 27th. January 18th - 21st I will be in New York for a Community Schools Conference. I travel back to New Hampshire on the 21st to turnaround to return to New York on the 22nd for a Collective Bargaining Conference. I was scheduled to attend this conference in January 2022, but it was cancelled because of COVID. It's nice that it has been rescheduled, but I am sad because last year it was in Los Angeles, and this time it's in New York. Oh well.

I will have access to my email and phone while I am away, but my response time may be delayed. For immediate assistance, please contact the Union Office (603-888-7544) or Gary Hoffman (vicepresident@nashuatu.org) or one of the members of the Executive Board. Please remember that Executive Board is teaching all day, so there will be a delay in them getting back to you.

Negotiations Updates

Secretary Negotiations Update

The Secretary Negotiations Team declared impasse on December 21st. There will be a meeting for all members of the secretary's contract on Wednesday, January 11th at 4:30pm, Nashua High School North Lecture Hall, Room B166. The negotiating team will be on hand to discuss what impasse means, what's still on the table, and next steps. If you have any questions, please contact Adam (president@nashuatu.org).

Paraeducator Negotiations Update

New Survey on Negotiations

The Paraeducator membership present at the meeting on December 19th rejected the 3 year tentative agreement. The Paraeducator Negotiations Team has created a survey to get feedback and direction from the membership.

We are asking all paraeducators who are members of the NTU to complete this survey. To take the survey, please go to https://www.nashuatu.org/negotiations/unit-b-para-educators/2023-unit-b-paraeducator-negotiations-survey.

The survey is open January 2nd through January 20th. The Paraeducator Negotiations team will meet on January 30th to review the data. The data will be available to the membership after the 30th.

Vacation!

No surprises here - lots of people are excited about sleeping in and not having to set an alarm. I can't remember the last time I set my alarm. I have a built in alarm clock called 5-year-old Madelyn!

Vacation Responses

Some of you mentioned spending time skiing. Here's Madelyn and me skiing at Ragged Mountain last weekend.

Just for Fun

I asked this question before, but I'm curious to see if the answer changes with this highly scientific survey.
